New Year's Resolutions for Your Car

New Year’s resolutions don’t have to be limited self-improvements such as losing weight or kicking bad habits - why not improve multiple areas of your life, including your car! If being a better car owner in the new year is on your list, we have compiled a few ways to help you achieve your goal.

  1. Get a seasonal tune-up. Start your year off right by having a professional take a look at your car thoroughly. This will help you know if there are any other problems you need to address. After that, schedule a bi-annual tune-up to stay on top of things.

  2. Detail your car. Just like detoxing for our bodies or spring cleaning for our homes when need a fresh start, your car could use a refresh too! Deep clean all those cracks and crevices that contain last year's remnants, or have a professional do it. Detailing your car is a simple way to make it look and feel brand new.

  3. Check your oil. Oil changes are part of routine maintenance that could help extend the life of your vehicle, or kill it if not kept up. Make sure you know what kind of oil your car needs and how many miles it can go between changes.

  4. Check your tires. Most technicians recommend tires be rotated every 5k to 10k miles. Check your owner’s manual to see what's recommended for your vehicle, and have your tires rotated on the appropriate mileage during an oil change. After the tires have been checked, stay on top of maintenance by checking your tire pressure at least once a month.

  5. Kick bad habits. Idling is one of those habits that can lead to excess pollution, decrease in fuel efficiency and an excess in spending. Did you know that unnecessary idling can cost you close to $100 in a year! Warm up your car by driving at a moderate speed instead. Be more cautious about fuel efficiency. Aggressive driving can lead to poor acceleration and a decline in fuel efficiency. Slow down and give yourself more time to get to your destination. This will help you relax behind the wheel, drive more efficiently, and have less of a reason to be an aggressive driver.

There are several ways to become a better driver and vehicle owner. Start with the list above and think about subtle ways change up your routine in order to achieve this goal. If you need help knowing where to start, stop by the lot! We’ll be happy to help you get your vehicle in shape for the New Year!
